Who the hell is Maria Saghie?
Get to know some of the brilliant minds behind our work. We’re chatting with members of the DixonBaxi studio about what makes them who they are. From the professional to the personal, nothing is off limits here. Introducing: Maria, our CRM Research Assistant who likes reading, photography, and probably owns more cats than you.
Who are you and what do you do?
Hey, I’m Maria. I’m a CRM Research Assistant and I’m part of the Operations & Growth Team.
I research new and exciting areas for our future and track contacts, leads and deals.
What’s your story?
I was born and raised in one of the most beautiful countries in the world: Lebanon. I started my undergraduate degree in Chemical Engineering but quickly changed courses and got my degree in Economics.
Although I’m someone who's used to the beach and loves the sun, I ended up in London… where the sun never shines! But I found a place to call home with my best friend – how cool is that?
From there, I got my Master’s degree in Management, but let’s just say that the only course I enjoyed attending was a marketing and branding course. I wasn’t sure of where I wanted to be after I graduated, but a few months later, I chanced upon a job post and went on their website. I immediately fell in love with their work and their clients.
Fast forward to today, here I am, as a part of the growth team at DB.
What are you working on right now?
It’s very, very confidential.
Good design creates a sense of awe. It goes beyond mere aesthetics and has the ability to challenge, inspire and reshape the world we live in.
Describe your working style in 3 words.
Adaptable, optimistic, collaborative.
Tell us about some of your interests. What are you into?
I can’t really pin down my interests because they change from day to day and I love trying new things. But I’ve gotten into the habit of reading, taking pictures and drinking coffee.
Oh, and I’m in love with animals – I’m especially obsessed with cats. I have 6 cats back home and I’m 98% sure that I was a cat in my previous life.
Do you think design can change the world? How?
When I think of design, many things come to mind, through which people have changed the world for centuries. Design exists to create solutions and improve people’s lives. Take one of the most basic examples, the iPhone – a simple phone that kept on improving its design to revolutionise the world. Not only has it allowed people to connect with each other, it’s also shaped their lives.
If you could change one thing about the world, what would it be?
If I were to change one thing in the world, it would be to provide access to free healthcare for all individuals.
What’s the last song you listened to?
Babe - Cupido.
Why do you do what you do? What motivates you?
Being a part of something bigger and leaving a mark behind.
What’s your definition of good design?
Good design creates a sense of awe. It goes beyond mere aesthetics and has the ability to challenge, inspire and reshape the world we live in.
