Who the hell is

Who the hell is Magda Barbosa?

Get to know some of the brilliant minds behind our work. We’re chatting with members of the DixonBaxi studio about what makes them who they are. From the professional to the personal, nothing is off limits here. Introducing: Magda, our Production Coordinator who is rediscovering her art supplies.

Who are you and what do you do?

I’m Magda, a Production Coordinator at DixonBaxi! 👋

What’s your story?

I was born and raised in Portugal and I moved to London almost eight years ago, seeking an adventure. I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do professionally, but I knew it had to be in a creative environment. It’s been a rollercoaster with many random experiences along the way, but I’m really enjoying the journey so far, with working at DixonBaxi is one of the highlights so far. Beyond my career, I also knew I wanted to live somewhere that fuels my creativity, and London continues to inspire me every single day (although I do miss the sunshine and the beach!).

What are you working on right now?

I’m still in the sponge stage, absorbing as much as I can. I’m currently immersing myself in everything DixonBaxi, learning how we work, and figuring out how I can use my role as Production Coordinator to support all the incredible work we do here.

"It’s fascinating how something so simple can completely transform how we feel."

Describe your working style in 3 words.

Curious, collaborative and adaptable.

Tell us about some of your interests. What are you into?

Rollerskating, animation, books, live music, crafts, history, linguistics... I’m also currently dusting off my art supplies — stay tuned.

Do you think design can change the world? How?

I think we can’t underestimate how design can really affect our moods and feelings. For example with sound design, I love how music in films changes the way we experience scenes. I love those YouTube videos where people swap out the music, and suddenly a film turns into a horror or comedy when it wasn’t meant to be. It’s fascinating how something so simple can completely transform how we feel.

If you could change one thing about the world, what would it be?

Basic answer, but I mean it: end world hunger. Having worked a long time in hospitality and seen how food gets wasted, I really believe that it’s not that we don’t have enough food and resources for everyone, but it's that they’re not well-distributed.

What’s the last song you listened to?

Diamond Boy (DTM) - SZA.

Why do you do what you do? What motivates you?

It’s a real privilege to work in a creative environment. I love how creative work brings out my inner child. I also love the satisfaction of seeing a project completed, knowing I worked hard to make it happen.

What’s your definition of good design?

I think good design communicates an idea, message, or call to action clearly and effectively, creating a connection between the person who created it and the person who's experiencing it.
