Who the hell is

Who the hell is Chu Lee?

Get to know some of the brilliant minds behind our work. We’re chatting with members of the DixonBaxi studio about what makes them who they are. From the professional to the personal, nothing is off limits here. Introducing: Chu, our Motion Designer from Taiwan who's searching for the best bubble tea in London when she's not making it herself.

Who are you and what do you do?

I'm a Motion Designer at DixonBaxi, but I have many other titles: illustrator, animator, filmmaker, ceramic amateur, otter searcher, dog stalker... you name it.

What’s your story?

I grew up in Taiwan, East Asia. In early 2018 I relocated to London, a city full of inspiration and amazingly talented people, and I've worked, studied and lived here ever since. I worked as a Motion Designer for many years and switched my focus to animated short films for a while, and now I'm exploring the new motion world for branding at DixonBaxi. Hopefully, my narrative background will bring new perspectives to my motion design thinking.

What are you working on right now?

Something exciting. Can’t wait to see the outcome!

"I like telling stories, making things move and designing with time and space."

Describe your working style in 3 words.

Curious, focused, fun.

Tell us about some of your interests. What are you into?

My interests are broad, and they shift from time to time. Two years ago, I was crazy about pottery and spent lots of time wedging clay. Last year, I went to Indonesia to learn surfing. I wasn’t good at it, but it was a challenging and fun experience. Lately, I've been playing lots of video games; I've found the narrative sides of gaming to be quite interesting. Despite my hobbies being all over the place, I'll always love films, reading, cooking, and music.

Do you think design can change the world? How?

Yes, definitely. Simply making things and places look beautiful can change a lot, let alone using design thinking to solve problems. It can be very powerful.

If you could change one thing about the world, what would it be?

End all wars.

What’s the last song you listened to?

HYUKOH – Wi Ing Wi Ing.

Why do you do what you do? What motivates you?

I like telling stories, making things move and designing with time and space. Not sure what motivates me. I just love doing it.

What’s your definition of good design?

Great aesthetics, excellent execution, unique perspectives and a distinctive voice to back it up. It solves problems, pushes boundaries and is not safe or boring.
