Who the hell is Marta Szymanska?
Get to know some of the brilliant minds behind our work; this series is all about sharing the personalities that make DixonBaxi who we are. We’re chatting with members of the studio about all things professional and personal. Introducing Marta, our head of production and an avid trainer collector.
Who are you and what do you do?
My name is Marta Szymanska and I have the privilege of being head of production at DixonBaxi.
What’s your story?
I arrived in London 12 years ago from Poland with a huge passion for art, literature and psychology and a massive hunger to discover the world and learn by getting my hands dirty. This led me to a degree in filmmaking that further developed my love for storytelling and big ideas. When I joined DixonBaxi as a part of our Intern Academy, I quickly discovered the rich world of branding and design that connects so many of my interests.
What are you working on right now?
I am helping to build the most creative branding agency in the world.
“Good design is ideas-led and connects with its audiences. It doesn’t follow the trends, instead it’s inspiring, smart and makes you look twice. And there is also a pinch of magic that makes it feel extra special.”
Describe your working style in 3 words.
Always learning and collaborative.
Tell us about some of your interests – what are you into?
Unsurprisingly, I am very much into film – anything with a story that doesn’t feel formulaic or written by numbers. Great cinematography excites me and in my spare time I read scripts. I’ve recently learnt how to develop films and print pictures as making things with your hands is extremely satisfying. I also have a soft spot for streetwear and my collection of trainers. After a long week, my favourite thing to do is to prepare a beautiful cocktail (and drink it).
Do you think design can change the world? How?
Design is a creative way of solving problems, so by definition it does. It enriches our culture and shapes the environments where we live and work, it imagines the future now. Motivating a more sustainable and accessible-for-all world is something that interests me.
If you could change one thing about the world, what would it be?
For the whole world to be more united whilst celebrating our beautiful differences.
What’s the last song you listened to?
Fast Land by Moderat.
Why do you do what you do? What motivates you?
I love being surrounded by passionate and talented people. I learn something new every day and it goes without saying that I am never bored or uninspired!
What’s your definition of good design?
Good design is ideas-led and connects with its audiences. It doesn’t follow the trends, instead it’s inspiring, smart and makes you look twice. And there is also a pinch of magic that makes it feel extra special.
