DB UNTILTED #4: Fran Mendez & Alejandro Lopez.

We spoke to Fran Mendez & Alejandro Lopez about typography and 36 days of type.

Talking typography.

As part of our fortnightly DB series of talks titled ‘UNTILTED’ we invited Fran Mendez and Alejandro Lopez in to speak to us about typography and design.

Fran and Alejandro are multi disciplinary visual designers from Spain. They shared with us their love of typography and some of their motivations to create their design work.

The focus quickly moved on to 36 days of type the annual open call from Nina Sans and Rafa Goicoechea.

Inviting designers, illustrators and visual artists to share their view on the letters and numbers from the English alphabet.

36 days of type is a collaborative project which is currently live until 3rd May.

It is a 36 day long celebration of creativity and typography where creatives of all disciplines are invited to make their own version of each letter of the alphabet on a specific day, and then post to Instagram and Twitter.

A global collaborative exercise that has proven extremely popular amongst designers.

Fran & Alejandro told us how much fun they had taking part in the project and encouraged our team to make time to experiment with type and join in this time around.

One of our team Rinat is doing just that! Here’s her first few letters:
